OTLEY TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB

"ANOTHER BRICK IN THE

WALL"

We currently run some 15 teams from under 7 through to under 17 and 3 open age, most of which play down at the Old Showground — extreme pressure on our existing level of support facilities.

We were also advised by the FA that we would have to provide segregated changing and showering facilities for home and away teams, plus the match officials —significant implications, significant changes were urgently required. New plans for the refurbishment of the Club were drawn up featuring: a new shower block, with a dividing wall to segregate home and away teams; changing rooms for home and away teams with separate entrances and toilets; plus a separate facility for officials to change and shower.

The first priority of the new pitched roof for the clubhouse and this major investment was put in hand earlier this year. The old flat roof (sieve!) remained in place until the completion of the football season (1999/2000), when it was removed with some difficulty!. The removal of the old ceiling, to open up the Club House and make it a more attractive facility also’ resulted in the removal of the old bar, the kitchen, the toilets, seating, wall panelling etc etc. This might appear a little drastic but people have remarked that it looks better already. The Management Committee thought if we are going to embark on a refurbishment then we might as well do a thorough and proper job. We are now making progress on the refurb and are immensely grateful to local tradesmen who have done much work but are not pressing for payment (notably Roland Bower and Tim Cartwright) and our limited volunteer labour force.

For the youth of Otley and the surrounding community this facility represents one of the very few available to them. The Club relies for funding on: membership fees,

some sponsorship — new kit or pitch side hoarding (e.g. Wharfedale Newspaper and the Rose & Crown - for which we are very grateful) and its bar. Because the bar/clubhouse resembles a building site the revenue from the bar has been limited. Quite honestly we have a cash flow problem.

We have attempted to raise funds via the brewery. Tetley’s representative promised much but delivered nothing. We have transferred our business to John Smiths but they are unable to provide a loan until our trade figures are confirmed. This is a bit "chicken & egg" as our full potential for bar sales cannot be realised until we have completed the refurb!.

We have therefore decided to launch an APPEAL in the form of a WALL. The wall (being made up of 1000 bricks, which can be purchased at £5 each. All those who purchase brick/s will have their name entered on a representative brick in the display board "Wall". The "WALL" and all those who contributed (at this crucial time of need) will form a prominent and permanent display in the newly refurbished Clubhouse. When we have sold all the bricks a draw will take place and a £100 cash prize will be offered as a thank you to the winner. We will also offer the winner life membership to the Club.

If you, your pub, your organisati6n or your company would like to make a contribution to the completion of works to this vital/crucial local community facility, of one or more bricks then please contact Richard Askham (Tel 01943 463842)(he has started the "ball rolling" with 20 bricks) or send you contribution to 2 The Stables, Courthouse Street, Otley. WHETHER ONE BRICK OR YOUR HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED BY THE

MANAGEMENT BUT IMPORTANTLY BY THE OF YOUR COMMUNITY.
