OTLEY AND DISTRICT MENíS FORUM
We met on the 31st March.
Our speakers at the meeting on the 31st March were Roger and Barbara Davy from the Ilkley Playhouse. It was fascinating to hear that the playhouse, run entirely by volunteers, has 700 members and can call on up to 60 actors. The great attention was shown to us of the design detail taken over of costumes and props and many brought along for us to see. However they did admit that occasionally things did go wrong and cited the case when too much smoke was generated in a production causing the fire brigade to be called and the theatre vacated !
Every year the playhouse decamps Ilkley for a week in the Summer and puts on a production at the Minack theatre in Cornwall. A spectacular location on the cliffs near Lands End. Barbara showed us pictures of this theatre and the actors preparation for performance.
A Vote of thanks was proposed by Keith Foster.
Our next meeting at the Methodist Church is at 10 am on April 14th when Malcolm Jervis is to talk on Bradford Textiles-Not just wool !.New members most welcome.
