OTLEY AND DISTRICT MENíS FORUM
We met on the 17th March.
The Forum held its annual Lady's night at Otley Golf Club on the 12 th March. It was well attended and an enjoyable event.
The speaker at our meeting on 17th March was Ruth Burke Kennedy from Betty's who told us all about tea and its history. It originated in China and spread via the Silk Route to the 16th century to Venice and then through Europe. It was slow to be accepted but then clipper ships were used to transport the tea.
We were invited to smell and taste 6 different teas including Assam and Darjeeling. We were told that Charles Taylor opened his first shop in 1886 ,followed by Betty's in 1900. The rest is history!.
Ruth told us that whether the milk is added first or second is simply a matter of preference. She did say that water once boiled should not be boiled again.
A vote of thanks was given by David Mc Dowell
