 OUTING
 to
The National Memorial Arboretum

21 June 2012

A very poor weather forecast did not deter us from our visit to “The National Memorial Arboretum” just south of Burton on Trent and adjacent to the A38. A coach full of members, partners and friends left Otley in rain which did not stop until we arrived at the Memorial. It then stayed dry until we left in the late afternoon. We were exceedingly lucky to have this dry sunny spell which enabled us to tour and appreciate the sacrifices made to keep Britain safe.

No better description of the Memorial Arboretum, which is a Royal British Legion Charity, is a quotation from their own literature:-

“ This extraordinary and unique place is Britain ’s living and growing tribute to the service and sacrifice of so many for our freedom. It is a place of Remembrance and contemplation but also of celebration of those who gave, and continue to give, so much so that we can enjoy our lives and the beauty that surrounds us.”

Everyone on the coach enjoyed their visit and the consensus was that further visits and recommendations to friends are appropriate.

Somewhat sad at times, this outing was none the less enjoyable and enlightening.

It was the last of our meetings until we start our 2012- 2013 session on Thursday 6th September in the Methodist Church Hall at 10-00am.
