The Plaque and Notice on the Chevin Cross
This notice was found in
the archives and was obviously put on
the old Cross on the Chevin in the early days.
This large cross reminds us of
the immense love God has for every single individual.
When first made it was even taller, but it fell down soon after first being put up and lost some height in the re-construction process. It now stands almost 30 feet (9 metres) tall with a span of 12 feet (3.6 metres)
A real 'working' cross is much smaller, and a life-sized replica is erected in the market place over Easter. It is designed to cause a painful, undignified and long drawn out death. GOOD NEWS Jesus ' death on a cross was not the end. His resurrection brings hope for us and God's promise 'of a way forward.
Through Jesus, God provides a way by which ordinary , sinful people can be released from the bondage of evil deeds and thoughts All approach the Holy One without fear and with renewed lives. Read about it in the New Testament part of the Bible starting with the Gospels.
We thank God for what He has done for us in the death and resurrection of Jesus, And pray that everyone in this town and area come to know this for themselves.
